Lynchburg, VA (Sports Network) - Joshua Jones scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Eastern Kentucky Colonels took down the Liberty Flames, 73-65, at the Vines Center in the Lynchburg Sub Regional of the 2K Sports Classic.
Eric Stutz and Jaron Jones each scored 14 for Eastern Kentucky (2-2) while Jeff Johnson grabbed a game-high eight rebounds off the bench.
The Flames (2-2) were led by Jesse Sanders and David Minaya as they each scored 19 points in the losing effort. Tavares Speaks added 14 off the bench on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor.
EKU opened the meeting on an 8-1 run but had to settle for a 28-28 tie at the break. The Colonels shot 42.9 percent from the floor in the opening period while the home team connected on 40 percent of its attempts.
The Colonels went on an 8-0 run near the middle of the second half to take an 11-point lead. The Flames were unable to overcome the deficit as they shot 2- of-7 from beyond the arc and had seven second half turnovers.
Three-point shooting played a big factor as Eastern Kentucky knocked down 10- of-22 attempts while Liberty made only 2-of-11 opportunities.
