Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Robert Brown scored a game-high 19 points, leading five players with double figures, as the Virginia Tech Hokies completed a 91-46 rout of the Monmouth Hawks as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Cassell Coliseum.
Dorenzo Hudson and Tyrone Garland added 18 points apiece in the win for Virginia Tech (2-0), which also got 13 and 11 points from Jarell Eddie and Erick Green, respectively.
Ed Waite finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead Monmouth (0-2) in the loss.
The Hawks shot at a miserable 29.2 percent pace from the field during the first period of play, opening a commanding 42-24 halftime lead for the Hokies.
The Hokies then shot a blistering 60.9 percent from the floor and converted 15-of-22 at the charity stripe over the final 20 minutes to roll to a 45-point victory.
The Hawks connected on just 26.8 percent of their attempts from the field during the contest, including a 1-for-17 performance from long range.
The Hokies advance to play the winner between George Mason/FIU on Tuesday night, while the Hawks will face the loser.
