Kennesaw State fires Ingle

Kennesaw, GA (Sports Network) - Kennesaw State has decided not to renew the contract of men's basketball coach Tony Ingle and his staff.

Interim athletic director Scott Whitlock said the move was made because of academic performance within the program.

"We have already lost one men's basketball scholarship, and we anticipate further NCAA action due to the continuing academic deficiencies of the program," said Whitlock in a statement. "We know that this is a strong action, but it was made after extensive analysis of the past and present academic performance of the men's basketball team. This is an action taken after full consultation and discussion among and between the athletic administration, the university's administration, the faculty athletic representative, and the leadership of the KSU Athletic Board."

Ingle had been the head coach since 2000, leading the school in its transition from Division II to Division I in 2005-06, and this past season guided the Owls to a record of 8-23 overall, including 6-14 in the Atlantic Sun.

The Owls were 178-165 during Ingle's tenure. They won the Division II title in 2004.
