San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Kwame Morgan hit a three-pointer with less than one second remaining to lift the Hampton Pirates over the Colorado State Rams by a 77-75 final as part of the Hilltop Challenge in San Francisco.
Morgan poured in a career-high 29 points for Hampton (11-3), which received 17 points from Darrion Pellum. Charles Funches and Christopher Tolson added 10 points apiece for the Pirates.
Adam Nigon and Andy Ogide tallied 16 points apiece in defeat for Colorado State (10-4). The Rams also got 15 points from Dorian Green, as well as 12 points each from Travis Franklin and Wes Eikmeier.
Hampton owned a 17-point advantage in the first half and led Colorado State by a 39-31 margin at intermission.
The Rams were able to make good on 58.3 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half and took a 75-74 lead with 14 seconds remaining on a Franklin free throw. That set the stage for Morgan's heroics.
Colorado State earned a 41-26 rebounding advantage in the tilt, but the Rams committed 18 turnovers, twice as many as the Pirates.
