Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - Vlad Moldoveanu exploded for a season-high 32 points as he led the American Eagles to an 83-71 victory over the Delaware Blue Hens in the title game of the 44th annual Cable Car Classic at the Leavey Center.
Moldoveanu, who also grabbed seven rebounds, was named the Cable Car Classic Tournament MVP. Stephen Lumpkins added 15 points and nine rebounds for American (9-5), while Daniel Munoz contributed 11 points in the win.
Jawan Carter led Delaware (6-5) with 23 points, while Jamelle Hagins tallied 17 points, to go along with eight rebounds.
The Eagles shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the first half and went into the break with a 40-26 lead.
Delaware fought back in the second stanza by posting a 14-4 run, but American responded with a 10-0 spurt that finished Delaware off for good.
The Eagles dominated play in the paint, out-scoring Delaware in the post by a 44-24 margin.
