NCAA Game Summary - Dominican University vs. Hampton

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Darrion Pellum scored a game-high 34 points as the Hampton Pirates posted a 78-65 win over the Dominican University Penguins as part of the Hilltop Challenge at War Memorial Gym.
Pellum converted an amazing 9-of-13 from three-point range for the Pirates (10-2) as they won their third straight outing and for the 10th time in the last 11 games. Kwame Morgan accounted for 20 points, although he shot just 1- of-7 beyond the arc, and Charles Funches logged a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds to go along with four assists and four steals in order to offset six turnovers.
The Penguins (0-8) remain winless on the season as Leon Hart delivered a team- best 17 points and pulled down five rebounds, followed by Killian Larson with 16 points and six bounds as well.
Dominican kept things tight for a decent portion of the first half, but down the stretch the Pirates used 6-of-13 shooting beyond the arc to move out to a 37-24 lead at the break.
In the second half Hampton used 11-of-14 shooting at the free-throw line to maintain its distance and grab the 13-point win.
Hampton, which shot 48.1 percent from the floor on the evening, won the battle of the boards, 38-29, in an effort to overcome 19 turnovers.
This game was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday night, but Hampton was unable to make the trip in time due to inclement weather along the East Coast.
The tournament carries on tomorrow in San Francisco with the Pirates taking on host USF, while the Penguins size up Colorado State.
