Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Darrion Pellum scored 18 points as the Hampton Pirates downed the George Washington Colonials 62-51 in an NIT Season Tip-Off consolation game at the Smith Center.
Kwame Morgan scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Pirates (4-1) who have now won four straight. Charles Funches also collected 10 caroms.
Tony Taylor scored 12 points for George Washington (2-2), while David Pellom collected 11 rebounds.
George Washington led 24-23 at halftime after going just 9-of-32 from the floor. The Colonials led by as many as six in the first half.
George Washington still led by six with 13:47 left in the game, but the Pirates used a 15-0 run to build a 53-41 lead with 2:36 left.
Hampton, which shot 44.9 percent from the floor, prevailed despite being losing the battle on the glass by a 45-35 margin.
