NCAA Game Summary - Longwood at Kansas

(Friday, November 12th)

Final Score: (7) Kansas 113, Longwood 75

Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Marcus Morris had 18 points and brother Markieff Morris added 14 points and 15 rebounds, as seventh-ranked Kansas pounded Longwood, 113-75, in the season opener for both schools.

Tyshawn Taylor tallied 17 points and 10 assists, while Thomas Robinson ended with 16 points for the Jayhawks (1-0), who won their 38th straight home- opener. The result extended the nation's longest home court winning streak to 60 games.

"I think that we have a lot of weapons offensively," Marcus Morris said. "There are a lot of guys that can get 20 points every game, and that's without Josh (Selby). So it's just going to vary from game to game, and the points are going to be spread around."

Antwan Carter had 22 points and eight rebounds for the Lancers (0-1), who also received 13 points from Jeremiah Bowman.

Kansas scored 12 of its first 15 points off of Longwood turnovers and scored 36 off turnovers in the game. During the last 9:03 of the first half, Kansas outscored the Lancers 30-9.

"It is real tough because they just love to push the ball in transition," Carter said. "As soon as you score, make or miss, they are just going to push it up the court and you have to be ready to get back or it is going to be easy buckets for them."

Kansas bolted to a 13-2 lead and used a surge late in the opening half to take command. The Jayhawks gained a 54-27 lead at the break thanks to 55.9 percent shooting over the opening 20 minutes.

The Jayhawks, who held a 19-0 advantage in fast-break points, also dominated with a 60-30 point differential in the paint.
