GAME NOTES: Tonight at the Convocation Center, the Arkansas State Red Wolves will host the New Orleans Privateers in a Sun Belt Conference tilt.
The last time New Orleans was on the floor the team suffered a 53-45 setback to Denver. It was the eighth loss in the last nine games for New Orleans, which is a meager 3-13 in conference action.
As for the Red Wolves, they are currently 10-6 in league play, sitting one game behind North Texas for the West Division lead. However, the team has stumbled a bit, losing its last two matchups, including a heartbreaking, 78-76 overtime loss to Western Kentucky last time out.
New Orleans currently owns a 26-17 edge over Arkansas State in the all-time series, but the Red Wolves have won four of the last six matchups, including a 66-52 victory earlier this season.
The Privateers were atrocious in their last matchup, netting just 45 points in a loss to Denver. New Orleans shot just 31.7 percent from the floor and finished just 2-of-11 from behind the arc. Carl Blair led the way for New Orleans in the loss with 17 points. Charles Carmouche grabbed 11 rebounds, but the guard struggled shooting, netting just 1-of-10 attempts, finishing the game with just five points. Scoring has been a problem for New Orleans throughout the season, as the team is netting just 59.0 ppg, behind a lackluster 40.1 percent shooting effort. Carmouche is the only player netting double figures for New Orleans, posting 12.6 ppg.
The Red Wolves have had consistency issues this season, as the team is netting just 69.9 ppg, behind a respectable 45.0 percent shooting effort. Brandon Reed is currently pacing the team with 15.2 ppg, while Martavius Adams is netting 11.2 ppg, to go along with a team-best 7.3 rpg. The last time the Red Wolves were in action the team scored 76 points, but suffered an overtime loss to Western Kentucky. Arkansas State shot 44.6 percent from the floor and was led by Reed, who exploded for 30 points. Adams tallied 12 points and eight boards, while Rashad Allison also contributed 12 points.
The Privateers have struggled this season and playing on the road against a solid Arkansas State squad will likely leave New Orleans in the loss column once again.
