GAME NOTES: The annual BracketBusters event reaches to Boiling Springs, North Carolina tonight, as the Elon Phoenix visit the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs.

This will be the fourth appearance in this event for Elon, and the team has yet to notch a victory in the competition. The Phoenix have however, posted victories in three of the last five games, including a 70-65 win over UNC Greensboro on Wednesday night that pushed the team's overall record to 7-19 and its Southern Conference ledger to 5-10.

As for Gardner-Webb, it has seen better days as the squad enters this contest in the midst of a three-game slide. The Bulldogs have lost seven of their last eight games, and own a 7-19 overall record to go with a 4-12 mark in Big South Conference action. The club's most recent setback came in the form of a tough 69-65 decision against Winthrop on Tuesday night.

Gardner-Webb leads the all-time series between these two programs, 23-10.

The Phoenix put four players in double figures in Wednesday night's five-point win over UNCG, led by Drew Spradlin and his 14 points. Terrance Birdette scored 12 points off the bench for Elon, while Adam Constantine finished with 11 points. Chris Long got into the mix as well, chipping in 10 points to go with five assists. The Phoenix shot a decent 44.0 percent from the field, but it was a 19-of-26 effort from the foul line and a game-high 12 takeaways that made the difference. Elon averages a mere 65.2 ppg on the season while allowing the opposition to rack up 72.1 ppg. The squad is shooting just 40.5 percent from the floor and currently boasts just a pair of double-digit scorers in the form of Spradlin (13.2 ppg) and Constantine (12.0 ppg, team- best 8.0 rpg).

The Bulldogs led Withrop, 50-49, with 5:15 remaining, but watched the Eagles go on an 11-1 run to go in front 61-51 with 50.9 seconds remaining. Gardner- Webb did not make a field goal down the stretch until the game was out of reach. The trio of C.J. Hailey, Stefon Johnson and Grayson Flittner scored 12 points apiece to pace the Bulldogs in the losing effort. On the season, GWU averages a respectable 67.8 ppg, but the squad has allowed the opposition to pour in 77.2 ppg on 46.0 percent shooting from the floor. Hailey is the team's lone double-digit scorer with his 12.7 ppg, although Anton Silver and Jonathan Moore are on the cusp, chipping in 9.7 and 9.3 ppg, respectively.

GWU has the home court advantage in this one, as Elon has not exactly been a force on the road. The Phoenix also have had difficulty scoring this season, which should come as a relief to the Bulldogs.
