Final Score: (16) Georgetown 83, Mount St. Mary's 62
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Greg Monroe posted 19 points and 11 rebounds to power 16th-ranked Georgetown to an 83-62 victory over Mount St. Mary's.
Chris Wright added 18 points, while Julian Vaughn had 14 points and eight boards for the Hoyas (5-0), who were coming off a 33-point rout of Lafayette Saturday. Aside from a one-point win over Temple, all of Georgetown's victories this season have been by at least 16 points.
"I think Julian was very good in terms of his presence on the court, being on the boards, being on the defensive end," said Hoyas coach John Thompson III. "I think he was very effective."
Jason Clark scored 12 and had four steals for the Hoyas, who went 17-of-32 from the field in the first half to gain a double-digit lead at the break.
Jean Cajou scored 16 and Tayvon Jackson added 11 for the Mountaineers (3-3), who shot 41.5 percent from the floor.
"Their size was able to bother us sometimes on the open looks that we had inside and they were still able to contest some of the shots that we had from the perimeter," said Mount St. Mary's coach Milan Brown.
Wright had 11 of his points in the opening half, but the Mountaineers kept it close midway through the stanza. Jackson's jumper had Mount St. Mary's within 24-21, but Monroe countered with a trey and Vaughn hit a jumper for an eight- point margin.
Wright's three-ball boosted the lead to 40-26, but Cajou came back with an ensuing shot from beyond the arc to close the half.
A layup from Wright moved the margin to 20 points at 51-31 with under 16 minutes remaining. The Hoyas led by double-digits the rest of the game.
