Harden, Sun Devils cruise past Jackson State
Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - James Harden scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead 19th-ranked Arizona State in an 81-60 rout of Jackson State.
Jeff Pendergraph poured in 19 points for the Sun Devils (6-1), who will host Nebraska on Sunday. Rihards Kuksiks added 16 points in the win.
Garrison Johnson led the way for Jackson State (1-7) with 21 points. Grant Maxey added 15 points for the Tigers, who will play at Kansas on Saturday.
As the Tigers were within two points, Kuksiks hit a three to spark a 19-4 Sun Devils run. Harden had the final eight points of the run, which gave the home team a 31-14 lead late in the first half.
The Sun Devils kept scoring and were up 42-26 at the half.
A Maxey layup pulled Jackson State within 11 points, 54-43, early in the second half but Arizona State responded with nine straight points, capped by a Jerren Shipp jumper, to make it a 20-point affair.
Arizona State led by as many as 25 points, en route to an easy win.
Jackson State has yet to play a home game this season...Arizona State's lone loss came against Baylor, and the Sun Devils have yet to play a ranked team this season. Arizona State also won its only previous meeting with Jackson State...Harden had scored more than 30 points in three of the last four outings coming in. Harden also poured in 40 points on Sunday against UTEP, a 76 Classic single-game record and the fifth-best scoring output in program history.
