NJIT's Casciano resigns
Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - New Jersey Institute of Technology men's basketball coach Jim Casciano resigned on Wednesday.
Casciano will lead the Highlanders in their final game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Utah Valley before stepping aside. He plans to explore other opportunities in athletics after leaving NJIT.
Casciano's record with one game remaining in his seventh season at NJIT is 66-118. But, the Highlanders are 0-28 this season after posting a 5-24 record in 2006-07, their first season of Division I competition.
"We have accepted Jim's resignation and we thank him for his seven years of service on behalf of NJIT and its men's basketball program," said athletic director Lenny Kaplan. "We are beginning a national search for a new head men's basketball coach and it is our goal to have the new coach in place as soon as possible.
"NJIT is fully committed to the continued growth of our young Division I athletics program, as well as our men's basketball program. We will look for a head coach who will lead the basketball program to achieve the same progress that we have seen in our overall athletic program since we began competing at the Division I level in 2006-07."
