Florida A&M wins MEAC in spectacular finish

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Brian Greene scored on an alley-oop at the buzzer off an inbounds pass, as Florida A&M claimed the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament championship with a 58-56 win over Delaware State at the RBC Center.

With 1.1 seconds left in the contest, Lamar Twitty inbounded the ball on the right side of the floor and lofted a long pass over several would-be defenders to Greene, who was standing just in front of the basket. Greene caught the ball, turned and released the shot just as time expired. A replay confirmed the game-winning basket.

Greene finished with a team-high 22 points 13 rebounds as FAMU (21-13) claimed its first MEAC championship since 2004, earning an automatic bid the NCAA Tournament.

Joe Ballard chipped in with 12 points and Darius Glover added 11 in the win for the Rattlers.

Roy Bright scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting and Elyon Bush added 10 points and six boards for Delaware State (21-12).

Delaware State got a three from Darrin Shine in the first 30 seconds of the second half to take a 31-29 lead, an advantage the Hornets wouldn't relinquish until midway through the period.

Greene's layup with 9:29 left in the contest gave FAMU a slim 44-43 lead and the Rattlers maintained the advantage until the last minute of play. With FAMU holding a 56-54 lead, Bright's layup tied the game with 32 seconds left.

FAMU mounted a nice run to start the contest and following a dunk by Rome Sanders, had a 14-5 lead with 13:25 remaining in the opening half.

However, Delaware State responded with an 11-2 run of its own and managed to tie the contest at 16 with just over eight minutes left in the stanza following a three-pointer by Marcus Neal.

Both teams continued to played it close to the best for the remainder of the opening half and after Ballard made a layup with 10 seconds left, Delaware State held a 28-27 lead heading into the intermission.

Game Notes

Twitty finished with three points and only one assist, the game-winning pass....Jahsha Bluntt finished with eight points and four rebounds for Delaware State.
