UConn thumps Sacred Heart
Storrs, CT (Sports Network) - Craig Austrie and Doug Wiggins led a balanced Connecticut attack with 12 points apiece as the 20th-ranked Huskies thumped Sacred Heart, 89-46.
A.J. Price and Jerome Dyson each added 11 points for the undefeated Huskies (6-0), who won their 12th straight game at Gampel Pavilion. Jeff Adrien contributed eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Ryan Litke paced the Pioneers (2-4), who were coming in off a lopsided win over Albany, with just nine points. Jarrid Frye tallied eight points but shot just 3-of-13 from the floor while Chauncey Hardy netted seven points but had six turnovers for Sacred Heart.
The Huskies took control of the contest with a dominant first half. With the game even at seven, Connecticut closed out the opening stanza with a 38-12 burst to take an insurmountable 45-19 edge into the locker room.
The Huskies shot 55 percent in the frame and used a stifling defense to shut down the overmatched Pioneers. Sacred Heart shot just 29 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 12 times in the half.
Connecticut kept pulling away in the second half. Dyson's lay-in gave the Huskies their first 30-point advantage, 63-32, with 11:30 left in the game.
Then, a slam, by Curtis Kelly with just 2:30 left, gave Connecticut a 40-point cushion, 81-41, en route to the easy win.
Connecticut is now a perfect 5-0 against Sacred Heart in the all-time series...The Pioneers were just 18-of-60 from the floor in the game.
