No. 13 Aggies down Prairie View
College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Antanas Kavaliauskas and Joseph Jones each scored 16 points to lead 13th-ranked Texas A&M past Prairie View, 81-49, at Reed Arena.
Kavaliauskas finished 6-of-8 shooting while the Aggies were 49 percent from the field.
Josh Carter added nine points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Aggies (1-0), who have won eight straight against Prairie View.
Texas A&M enters the season ranked for the first time since the 1980-81 campaign, when they were listed 15th overall by the Associated Press.
In the NCAA Tournament last year, the Aggies defeated 21st-ranked Syracuse in the first round, but then fell to 18th-ranked LSU. They finished with a 22-9 overall record and 10-6 in the Big 12.
Andy Genao scored 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting and Derek Johnson and Adenilson Clementino each had six for the Panthers (0-1), who shot a lousy 31 percent.
Texas A&M went on a 26-5 burst in the first 8 1/2 minutes, led by Kavaliauskas' eight points along with five from Carter. The Aggies led by as many as 29 en route to a 44-21 first-half advantage.
The Panthers never got close in the second half and trailed by 30 or more points for most of the frame.
Texas A&M scored 25 points off turnovers...The Aggies have won seven straight home openers at Reed Arena and 23 straight regular-season contests against non-conference opponents.
