The Kansas City Royals on Friday agreed to year contracts with shortstop Alcides Escobar and second baseman Johnny Giavotella.
Escobar, 25, batted .254 and drove in a career-high 46 runs last season, his first with the Royals, who acquired him from Milwaukee as part of the December 2010 trade involving Zack Greinke.
The 24-year-old Giavotella made his major league debut in 2011, batting .247 in 46 games for the Royals.
