The Boston Red Sox announced their acquisition of third baseman Danny Valencia from the Minnesota Twins.
The Twins acquired outfielder Jeremias Pineda; Boston optioned Valencia to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Valencia batted .198 with a .212 on-base percentage in 34 games this year for the Twins and has spent parts of three seasons in Minnesota. For his career, spanning 273 games, Valencia has a .260 average and a .301 on-base percentage with 24 homers and 52 doubles.
Pineda has batted .421 in 36 games for the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Red Sox this season.
