The National Hockey League fined Ottawa Senators forward Zenon Konopka $2,500 and the Senators franchise $10,000 on Monday.
The franchise was docked due to Konopka's actions prior to Saturday's 3-2 Ottawa overtime victory against the New York Rangers in Game 2 of that Eastern Conference quarterfinal.
The 31-year-old Canadian directed verbal abuse towards a Rangers player who was conducting a live televised interview during the warm-ups. His fine was the maximum allowable under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Game 3 in the best-of-seven set will take place in Canada's capital later Monday.
