The NFL's changes to the extra point procedure for 2016 has made the play far more exciting than it used to be, but the NFL's kickers are having a historically bad day Sunday.
The NFL record for missed extra points in a given week is 10, set in 1985 according to Elias, but through the early slate of games Sunday kickers around the league had a total of nine extra point attempts missed or blocked.
Cincinnati's Mike Nugent missed two critical extra points in a close game against the Bills, and the misses forced the Bengals to go for a touchdown late facing a four-point deficit instead of being able to kick a field goal for the win. In New York, Giants kicker Robbie Gould (1/3) and Bears kicker Connor Barth (1/2) combined to miss three extra points.
The Madden NFL team had some fun at the kickers' expense Sunday afternoon, dishing out some pointers on proper technique.
