Atlanta Braves reliever Jonny Venters won't throw for a period of four weeks after undergoing treatment Tuesday morning for an elbow issue.
Venters, already on the 15-day disabled list, was administered a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection from noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Andrews performed Tommy John surgery on Venters' elbow in 2006.
The left-hander will begin a throwing program after his period of inactivity.
Venters made seven spring training appearances last month and allowed 13 hits with six walks in 6 2/3 innings. He was 5-4 with a 3.22 ERA in 66 games last season.
