The Houston Astros have placed second baseman Jose Altuve on the bereavement list following the death of his grandmother.
Altuve can remain on the bereavement list for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven days. He will miss at least the remainder of this week's series against the Detroit Tigers.
The All-Star second baseman is hitting a club-best .333 with two homers and 18 runs batted in. He suffered a partially dislocated jaw during Monday's game against Detroit after colliding with outfielder Jimmy Paredes, but wasn't expected to miss any games.
Houston recalled infielder Jake Elmore from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill the roster spot. Elmore was hitting .300 in 36 games for the RedHawks.
