(STATS) - Harvard will play its 2017 season without standout offensive lineman Larry Allen III, who will not be enrolled for the fall semester.

A Harvard athletic spokesman said the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Allen Jr. is expected to return to the Ivy League university next year. A reason for his departure was not given.

The 6-foot-4, 285-pound Allen, an offensive guard and NFL prospect, was selected to the 2016 All-Ivy League first team as a junior after making the second team in 2015. He played scholastically at the famed De La Salle program in Concord, California.

Harvard expects to contend for the 2017 league title after finishing 7-3 and in third place last season - its 16th straight with a winning record.
