ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Veteran Rickie Weeks, who hit nine home runs for the Diamondbacks last season, has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays. The contract includes an invitation to major-league spring training.
Right-handed relievers Cory Rasmus and David Carpenter also agreed to similar deals with the Rays.
Weeks, 34, was signed just prior to the start of spring training last season and made the D-backs Opening Day roster as a pinch-hitter and reserve outfielder. He hit .239 and drove in 27 runs while playing in 108 games.
