There are now three Alabama QBs who have decided to transfer from the school

Jalen Hurts has been one of the breakout stars of the entire college football season, but the success of the Alabama true freshman quarterback has come with a cost. One of Hurts' backups, redshirt sophomore David Cornwell announced on Twitter Wednesday his plan to transfer from Tuscaloosa.

The news comes shortly after redshirt junior Cooper Bateman also announced he was transferring. Blake Barnett, who actually started Alabama's opener against USC, declared earlier this week that he will finish his career at Arizona State.

Given that Hurts is clearly the quarterback of the present and very distant future for the Crimson Tide, and seems to be entrenched in the start's spot for at least two more seasons, the mass QB exodus kind of makes sense.

Even after Barnett technically "won" the job in fall camp, Hurts was inserted into the lineup early in Alabama's season opener against USC and then never really looked back. He finished his freshman season with 22 passing touchdowns and 12 more scores on the ground, all but ensuring that the job is his the next two years. It also doesn't help the Crimson Tide have two more quarterbacks committed in next year's class, including Tua Tagovailoa, whom 24/7 Sports considered to be the best dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class.

Which means playing time would be limited for Bateman and Cornwell going forward. More realistically, it'd be non-existent.

On the other hand, other schools would benefit from getting a guys who were both highly-rated coming out of high school. Though neither had seen the field much at Alabama: Bateman attempted just 66 career passes (two touchdowns and two interceptions), while Cornwell has yet to attempt a pass in his college career.

Both will be considered graduate transfers, meaning that they will be eligible to play right away.

According to ESPN, Bateman will stick with the Tide throughout the College Football Playoff, while Cornwell's status is less certain.
