Huefner gets record-tying 37th World Cup luge victory

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) Tatjana Huefner of Germany tied the career record for World Cup women's luge wins, prevailing Saturday at Mount Van Hoevenberg for her 37th victory on the circuit.

Huefner is now knotted with Sylke Otto for the all-time lead, three ahead of reigning world champion Natalie Geisenberger.

Huefner's two-run time on Saturday was 1 minute, 28.638 seconds. Canadians finished second and third, with Kimberley McRae taking silver in 1:28.706 and Alex Gough the bronze in 1:28.703.

Huefner has now won a World Cup on 13 different tracks, after never before finishing first on Lake Placid's ice.

Americans took gold, silver and bronze in this World Cup race last year - and got shut out Saturday, after some second-run stumbles. Summer Britcher was the top U.S. slider, taking fourth.
