A 108-year-old Cubs fan died a week after the team's World Series win

Mabel Ball lived to see the Chicago Cubs finally snap their 108-year World Series drought, then died shortly after enjoying it. At age 108.

Ball, who was born in 1908 -- the year the Cubs last won it all before putting away the Indians in Game 7 last week -- died this past Tuesday of a heart attack.

"The cruel irony, the almost unbelievable irony, is that the person who waits and waits and waits, after it happens, says, 'I've done what I've got to do, and I'm out of here,'" her son Rich told the Chicago Tribune. "It ain't funny, but it's funny."

Ball became somewhat of a local celebrity during the World Series because of her incredible story -- a status she considered to be "a lot of nonsense."

She listened to the Cubs on the radio, but her son told the Tribune that the only Cubs game she ever attended was on her 90th birthday.
