Midweek Stock Report: Knebel and Suter break through for Brewers

Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.

In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting.

With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin.

Hernan Perez, Brewers infielder

Perez has done everything but pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers over the last week, taking the field at first base, second base, third base, right field and left field. He came through in the clutch on Tuesday night, smacking a two-run triple in the seventh inning to spark a big Brewers comeback in a win against the Colorado Rockies.

Jared Cook, Packers tight end

Cook is reportedly building a solid rapport with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, an encouraging sign for the 6-foot-5 tight end, who signed with the team in March. Cook has four receptions for 26 yards through two preseason games. It's a welcome development for Cook, whose quarterbacks last season included Nick Foles, Case Keenum, Sean Mannion and Johnny Hekker.

Corey Knebel and Brent Suter, Brewers pitchers

Suter picked up his first major-league win after pitching a scoreless seventh inning against the Colorado Rockies on Monday, while Knebel closed things out in the ninth to pick up his first major-league save. It's just the fourth time that two pitchers have reached the milestone in the same game.

Jordy Nelson, Packers receiver

He's back. Nelson returned to the practice field on Monday, his first such session of the season, participating in individual workouts. The Packers activated Nelson last week, and the veteran wide receiver remains on track to play in Green Bay's season-opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 11.

Matt Garza, Brewers pitcher

After stringing together a series of successful starts Garza pitched in just his 13th game of the season on Sunday, allowing nine hits and five earned runs through 3 2/3 innings of work.

Junior Guerra, Brewers pitcher

Guerra pitched a simulated game at Miller Park on Tuesday, but manager Craig Counsell doesn't expect him to rejoin the lineup until September at this stage. Guerra has been on the DL since Aug. 8 with a right-elbow injury.
