Grad transfer Davis Webb has been named the new starting QB at Cal, a source told FOX Sports Thursday morning.

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Webb takes over for Jared Goff, who left Cal and became the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft.

The news isn't surprising. The strong-armed Webb had a 46-22 TD-INT ratio at Tech. He already has a strong grasp on new Bears OC Jake Spavital's system and is said to have an ideal temperament and leadership for a program that also needs to replace its top six receivers.

Cal opens the season Aug. 27 against Hawaii in Australia.
