The Golden State Warriors know there's a firm bull's-eye on their back. It was inevitable after adding Kevin Durant to a team that just won a record 73 games last season.
Critics wonder who will sacrifice to make this historic combination of offensive talent work. Stephen Curry is the reigning two-time MVP. Durant is a four-time scoring champ who averaged 28.2 points last season. Klay Thompson has one of the purest shooting strokes and is one of the best two-way players in the game. And Draymond Green had 13 triple-doubles last season and is one of the most versatile defenders in basketball.
There's only one basketball, so who will shoot it? Thompson doesn't answer that question but does know what will happen when the Warriors do hoist a shot.
"Yeah, there's only one ball," Thompson said Wednesday on San Francisco radio station KNBR with Tolbert and Lund, "and guess what we'll do? We'll put it in the hoop."
It's tough to argue with Thompson. The Warriors offense could be something we've never seen in the NBA. But Golden State has lost key pieces this summer -- Andrew Bogut, Harrison Barnes, Marreese Speights and others -- to create enough cap room to add Durant.
Will those losses affect the Warriors' chemistry, defense or rebounding? Possibly. But their offense probably will make up for those deficiencies.
