Tiger Woods’ 2016 majors season has ended without even starting.

The PGA Championship announced Tuesday that the the 14-time majors champion has withdrawn from its tournament, which will be held July 28-31 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.

Woods, recovering from two back surgeries, hasn’t played in a tournament since last August, when he tied for 10th in the Wyndham Championship.

After he missed the Masters in April, there was some optimism that Woods might play in three of the four majors this year, but his agent, Mark Steinberg, confirmed in an email to GolfChannel.com after the PGA Championship announcement that Woods won't play at all this season:

"Continuing to make progress, but simply not ready for PGA. Will not play in the '15/'16 season and will continue to rehab and work hard to then assess when he starts play for the '16/'17 season."
