USC's copy of O.J. Simpson's Heisman Trophy returned after it was stolen in 1994

The University of Southern California got its copy of O.J. Simpson's Heisman Trophy returned more than 20 years after it was stolen.

Lewis Eugene Starks Jr. pleaded no contest to one count of receiving stolen property and was sentenced to three years' probation in connection to the theft of the trophy that occurred in 1994. The university's copy of Simpson's plaque and trophy were stolen from USC's Heritage Hall, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

The district attorney's office and LAPD had possession of the plague and the trophy during the case and returned it to USC on Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Simpson, who won the Heisman in 1968, was sentenced to 33 years in prison after being found guilty on all of the 12 robbery, kidnapping and weapons charges stemming from an incident in Nevada with a pair of memorabilia dealers in 2008. Simpson was found not guilty in the slayings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in 1995.
