All four of these NASCAR stars have at least one runner-up finish at a plate track, but for whatever reason, they've been unable to seal the deal at either Daytona or Talladega.
This week's Sprint Cup Series race is at Daytona International Speedway, which along with Talladega Superspeedway is one of two restrictor-plate tracks on the NASCR circuit.
There are plenty of terrific restrictor-plate racers in the sport, led by Dale Earnhardt Jr., who has 10 plate-track victories, and five-time winners Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson.
But who are the best racers out there who have never won on a plate track? The answers might surprise you.
All three of these NASCAR stars have at least one runner-up finish at a plate track, but for whatever reason, they've been unable to seal the deal at either Daytona or Talladega.
4.MARTIN TRUEX JR. -- It's almost unfair to include Truex on this list. After all, in the season-opening Daytona 500 this year, he came within 0.010 seconds of winning. But in 45 plate-track starts, Truex has no victories and just three top-five and 11 top-10 finishes. The New Jersey native has four career Cup wins.
3. KASEY KAHNE -- For his career, the driver of the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet has run 50 restrictor-plate races. In those 50 races, Kahne has posted one pole, five top fives and 13 top 10s. Kahne has a total of 17 career Cup victories, with wins on short tracks, intermediate tracks and rod courses. But never at a plate track.
2. CARL EDWARDS -- If you look at Edwards' numbers at plate tracks, they're an awful lot like Kahne's: 47 starts, one pole, eight top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. He famously flipped into the catchfence at Talladega in 2009 while racing Brad Keselowski for the victory. Overall, Edwards has won 27 Cup races.
1. KURT BUSCH -- Of the three, Busch by far has the most impressive plate-track stats. In 61 races, the 2004 series champion has a whopping 18 top-five and 32 top-10 finishes. Those numbers are absolutely stout, as are his 28 career Cup race victories. Busch's most memorable plate race probably came in 2008, when he pushed then-Penske teammate Ryan Newman to victory in the Daytona 500.
