Rain won the day and night at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday.
A series of several storms opened the heavens over Central Florida in the afternoon and early evening, causing the cancellation of the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Happy Hour session and most of the first practice as well.
Happy Hour was scheduled for 5 p.m. ET, but was postponed because of rain. Track officials had hoped to have the track dry by 6:30 p.m., with 30 minutes of NASCAR XFINITY Series practice followed by Sprint Cup practice.
But shortly before 6:30 p.m., the rains started falling again at the 2.5-mile superspeedway. That ended on-track activity for the remainder of the day.
In the day's only practice, just eight drivers completed at least one lap before the rains fell.
NASCAR is working on a revised schedule for Friday.
