It's been four years since Linsanity to over the New York sports scene, as little-known Jeremy Lin became an overnight sensation with the Knicks. And though Lin has three different organizations since his breakout run, the veteran free-agent guard has always had a soft spot for the Big Apple.
But Lin understands that the Knicks' acquisition of Derrick Rose will make a reunion this summer a long shot.
"It's not looking likely because they just traded for Derrick Rose," Lin said, via ESPN. "But I will say that ever since I left, I've always been open to going back and I still am. Never say never, that's the one thing in the NBA, never say never. So I've always been open but right now, I'm not sure if it's the best timing. But if it happens, it happens."
Lin left New York after his magical run at the end of 2011-12 season, signing a four-year deal with the Rockets. But he didn't pan out in Houston and was eventually traded to the Lakers in July 2014.
Lin has seen his field-goal percentage regress each of the past two seasons, shooting just 41 percent from the floor in his lone season with the Hornets. He's also seen his starts diminish each of the past three years, starting just 13 games last season.
But Lin most likely will draw interest from teams in need of a backup point guard, especially with next season's salary cap expanding to roughly $94 million.
