No player in this space will be mentioned in back-to-back weeks, as we don't want to spam you with the same choices over and over again. We'll also limit the waiver wire suggestions to players owned in fewer than 40 percent of FOXSports.com leagues. Got it? Let's get to this week's fantasy baseball waiver pickups:
Catcher
Yasmani Grandal, LAD (29.6% owned)
Grandal has been a victim of bad luck, as his BABIP (Batting Average on Balls In Play) is just a paltry .206, which is well below the league average. His numbers and power should begin to pick up, and beggars can't be choosers at catcher in fantasy.
First Baseman
Joe Mauer, MIN (23.9% owned)
Mauer's OBP remains sky high, as he's up to .378 on the year now. He's under-owned for that reason alone, but his average is also coming up (.307 over his last 30) and there's been some surprising power on display as well. He just doesn't hurt you.
Second Baseman
Devon Travis, TOR (10.9% owned)
He's 9-for-17 over his last seven games, and he's in one of the best lineups in baseball. Travis hit .304 his rookie year, so this doesn't seem like a fluke. He was injured to start the year and has been flying under the radar, but that's about to change.
Third Baseman
Justin Turner, LAD (25.4% owned)
It was only a matter of time before his bat warmed up, and now here we are. Turner is 10-for-25 with 4 HR over his last seven games and is slashing .271/.343/.531 over the last month. The batting average is going to keep climbing, and he's on pace to hit around 20 HR. Grab him.
Shortstop
Jhonny Peralta, STL (27.1% owned)
He's been struggling after returning from injury, but he's in a very good lineup and hit .275 with 17 HR last year. That's definitely worth owning, particularly at shortstop, where there isn't always great depth. Be patient, as the numbers should start climbing up soon enough.
Outfield
Rajai Davis, CLE (15.7% owned)
It's shocking that Davis is available in so many leagues, as he's an everyday player again with big time speed that can you win a category. Davis is up to 21 stolen bags on the year, which would have plenty of standalone value even if he wasn't hitting for power as well (7 HR). At the very least, platoon him against lefties.
Starting Pitcher
Jameson Taillon, PIT (31.2% owned)
We recommended him in this space two weeks ago (before his 8 IP, 2 H outing against NYM) and now we'll do it again. Taillon is a top prospect with legit stuff, and it's worth taking a few bad starts for his strikeout upside.
Relief Pitcher
Carlos Estevez, COL (9.1% owned)
With Jake McGee on the DL, Estevez has stepped in and secured four straight saves in impressive fashion. At least until McGee gets back and cleared to play, Estevez is a nice short term solution if you're hunting for saves that are widely available.
