Boston Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez looked like he was auditioning for a spot in the New England Patriots backfield on Sunday.

Ramirez stole second base in the eighth inning against the Minnesota Twins, but the real fun began when he popped up from his slide and realized the throw had sailed into the outfield.

Ramirez immediately turned for third but, perhaps sensing he was about to lose it, grabbed his helmet and tucked it under his left arm like a football.

He has a history of losing his helmet -- the phenomenon even spawned a parody Twitter account -- so maybe this is a sign he's trying to change that.

Unfortunately for the Red Sox, they lost by a field goal -- faling 7-4 in the 10th inning.
