Steph Curry might have had a night to forget on the court in Game 1 of the NBA Finals Thursday, but off the court, Steph continued to prove why he's the real MVP (both literally and figuratively).
Earlier this week, we told you about Curry's new line of "Stephmoji's" (yes, Stephen Curry-themed emojis) and as we found out Friday morning, they are selling at the same staggering clip at which the real Steph Curry nails deep threes. Despite retailing at $1.99, Stephmojis became the No. 1 paid app in Apple's store by Thursday, topping even Kim Kardashian's "Kimoji's."
Yes, this is the world we live in, with Fortune providing details on both the app, and the financial windfall that comes with it:
StephMoji is an emoji app, allowing users to "access hundreds of brand-new emoji personally curated by Steph himself." The emoji collection spans everything from his famous chewing on his mouthguard to images of Curry laughing, sleeping, sending kisses, and much, much more.
Getting to the top of Apple's App Store is by no means an easy feat, and in a world where paid apps are being tossed aside in favor of free apps with in-app purchases, it makes Curry's triumph even more impressive. Perhaps most importantly for him and the app's creator Appmoji, it also means serious cash. While it's unknown exactly how many downloads the app has notched so far, the fact that it's made it to the top suggests he's generated a significant number of downloadsâand at $2 each, it might make him some nice cash.
Following the Warriors' Game 1 win, and with no basketball until Sunday, we can only imagine how many more Stephmojis will be downloaded between now and Game 2.
Update: Bad news for Steph fans. While his app remained ahead of Kardashian's as of 1:30 p.m. ET, there was another app which had taken over No. 1: Justin Bieber's "jumoji's."
Let that one sink in for a second.
