The Kansas City Chiefs shored up their backfield on Thursday with the extensions of backup duo Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware.
Details of the contracts remain unknown, but the Chiefs acknowledged the deals over Twitter.
As Chiefs.com's BJ Kissel noted, West was effusive in his praise for the Chiefs after signing.
Signing West and Ware are smart moves by the Chiefs, who leaned heavily on the duo after Jamaal Charles went down with a torn ACL in October. You can't replace Jamaal Charles, but you can try to recreate him in the aggregate, and if Charles isn't fully ready to go come fall, West and Ware will take over running duties until he recovers.
And that is what makes Jamaal Charles being the first to reach out to Chandrick so...unexpected.
After signing, West tweeted that the first person to reach out and say congrats was Charles, the man who, at the end of the day, possesses the job he wants to take.
Again: not mom, dad or significant other. A coworker West directly competes with hit him up just to say good stuff, man. Then again, West says the Chiefs backfield is practically family, per Chiefs.com's Pete Sweeney.
So yeah, the Chiefs backfield is probably tighter than my family. My phone is on silent without exception at 2 a.m.
Dan is on Twitter. He's just happy when someone around here retweets his Crying MJ memes.
