CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The Panthers announced they have signed long snapper J.J. Jansen to a five-year contract extension.

Terms of the deal were not released on Wednesday.

Jansen has only had one bad snap since joining the Panthers in the 2009 season - that coming in the 2010 season opener against the New York Giants. Jansen has a current streak of more than 600 successful snaps.

Special teams coordinator Bruce DeHaven told the team's website on Wednesday that the 30-year-old Jansen ''earned'' the extension.

''He affects the entire special teams,'' DeHaven says. ''He's got some size, he's very smart and he's got a lot of leadership ability. I can't say enough great things about him.''
