Looks like the team with the greatest record in NBA history a fan of the club with the best mark in NFL history. When the last remaining unbeaten NFL team suffers its first loss each season, some members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins -- the only NFL team to ever finish a season unbeaten -- famously celebrate with champagne.
Now, with the Golden State Warriors threatening the 1995-96 Bulls' mark of 72 regular-season wins, some members of that famed Chicago team said they want the Warriors to fall short of their record, and will celebrate when (if) they do.
Speaking with ESPN's Nick Friedell recently, some of those old Bulls offered up plenty of praise for these current Warriors -- including head coach Steve Kerr, their teammate in the mid-90s who is now head coach in Golden State though still out following back offseason surgery.
But they also made it no secret which team was better, and which team they want to hold that all-time wins record.
Swingman Toni Kukoc:
"I'll bet you out of, I don't know 15 players, probably 16 would say that we would beat them,"
Center Bill Wennington:
"Now they've just picked up their fourth loss in Detroit the other day so I'd lie to you if I say I wasn't happy about it. But records and rules are made to be broken. It's going to happen one day. The longer it lasts the better it is. But they're a great team, they play in a great system, they move the ball well, they play together well ... they're fun to watch"
Guard Randy Brown:
"It might be a little champagne flowing when they lose that 11th game. I wouldn't mind. As they say, they're not focusing on the record as well, I think they're focusing on playing good basketball. And if that turns into wins so be it for them."
As for the Warriors' pursuit of 72-10, the old Bulls could have used some help from the current ones on Wednesday night, but Golden State blew the doors off the United Center, winning 125-94.
