Lockett adds NFC Special Teams Player of Month award to weekly honor

Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver Tyler Lockett received his second honor in as many days when he was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month on Thursday.

One day after he was selected the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, Lockett earned his second monthly honor. The third-round draft pick out of Kansas State also won the award in September and joined Tamarick Vanover (1995) as the only rookies to win multiple monthly honors.

Lockett averaged 27.1 yards on nine kickoff returns in five games in December and January. He also averaged 16.6 yards on 11 punt returns, capping the month with a spectacular performance against Arizona in the regular-season finale.

Lockett set a franchise single-game record with 139 punt return yards - all in the first half - to spark the Seahawks to a 36-6 win over the Cardinals on Sunday. He had punt returns of 66 and 42 yards to set up a pair of touchdown passes in a span of under two minutes as Seattle blew the game open.

"I'm really happy that happened after getting selected to the Pro Bowl and all of that for returns and to have a game like that to jump out and kind of prove it," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters Wednesday.
