Did LSU make the best hire of the offseason in landing DC Aranda?

LSU certainly paid a king's random to pry new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda from Wisconsin, having agreed to pay the assistant coach at least $1.3 million for three seasons, according to Bruce Feldman.

That's a truckload of dollars for an assistant coach, but is it money well spent? According to Dave Bartoo of CFB Matrix - who ranks coaches based upon a number of unique metrics, LSU just landed the best defensive coordinator in the nation in 2015.

As a recent guest on The Out of Bounds Show, Bartoo broke down the hire and why it makes sense for the Tigers.

"He was our No. 1 defensive coordinator in the country on our board. Period. The fact that Wisconsin doesn't pay a whole lot, absolutely no surprise this guy jumped ship to a national title potential type of contender," Bartoo said.

While LSU may have been upset with losing Kevin Steele to Auburn at the time -- the Tigers have now lost their defensive coordinator to a division rival for the second consecutive season -- it appears the loss could pay huge dividends down the road with Aranda now working on the Bayou.
