The Detroit Lions are starting to explore their options for the team's next general manager. One candidate for the job is New England Patriots director of pro personnel Bob Quinn.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick endorsed Quinn for a GM position, praising the job he has done in New England for the past 16 seasons.
In addition to interim GM Sheldon White, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Quinn and Seattle Seahawks co-director of player personnel Trent Kirchner are also interviewing for the Lions job. Former GM Martin Mayhew, who took over for Matt Millen in late 2008, was fired after Detroit's 1-7 start this season.
Quinn has been with the Patriots since the 2000 season. He worked his way up the scouting ranks while the team won multiple Super Bowls. He has held his current, high-ranking position since 2012.
Due to New England's success and Belichick's endorsement, Quinn will be a fan favorite to become the Lions' next GM. With the help of NFL consultant Ernie Accorsi, team president Rod Wood and ownership make the final decision
