Chancellor calls report of his attempt to oust Sumlin a 'fairy tale'

Once freshman quarterback Kyler Murray officially announced his decision to transfer from Texas A&M only a week following sophomore quarterback Kyle Allen also departing the Aggies via transfer, speculation on head coach Kevin Sumlin's job was sure to follow.

Sure enough, Horns Digest reported A&M chancellor John Sharp was considering paying Sumlin's $20 million buyout and looking to pursue other head coaching candidates. Sharp quickly denied those comments to the Houston Chronicle:

Would the Aggies really spend that much money to remove a head with a 36-15 overall record (17-15 in SEC) and a perfect 3-0 bowl record heading into the Music City Bowl against Louisville?

Sumlin sure could use a win Dec. 30 to calm the natives heading into the offseason. Winning a more home SEC games would certainly help his cause as well, as A&M has a 2-7 record over SEC opponents in its last nine conference games.
