Earlier this week at the Winter Meetings, there was some talk suggesting that the Texas Rangers were shopping slugger Prince Fielder - but GM Jon Daniels has since come out and quashed that rumor.
According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fielder 'hasn't even been mentioned' in conversations with other organizations. This effectively refuted the thought of trading Fielder, something that became a topic of conversation after Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News sent this tweet on Tuesday:
Texas is on the hook for $90 million of the $120 still owed to Fielder through 2020, with the Detroit Tigers paying the remaining $30 million.
In his piece, Wilson also updated some other Rangers' buzz that had circulated during the Meetings: he said that the Rangers and Pittsburgh Pirates have had 'no traction' on a potential Mitch Moreland trade, while also indicating that the club has 'too many concerns' about the status of free agent left-hander Cliff Lee's pitching elbow to warrant any significant interest in a low-risk, high-reward contract with him.
