Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is limping his way through a painful season. He has been sacked 22 times (tied for eighth-most in NFL), as his pocket has consistently collapsed around him.
The Lions' two starting offensive tackles have been the main culprits when it comes to letting pass-rushers into the backfield. Left tackle Riley Reiff (29) and right tackle LaAdrian Waddle (28) are both listed among the eight offensive linemen who have allowed the most pressures this season, according to NFL Media's Gil Brandt.
Detroit appeared to have the makings of a young, capable offensive line before the season began. That just hasn't fleshed itself out in the games, as the Lions have struggled in both pass protection and run-blocking (66.9 yards per game, last in NFL).
At 2-7, the Lions are currently looking at a top-10 pick in next year's draft. A premier offensive tackle may be a type of player they consider with that pick.
