Earlier this week, Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden announced that he hopes the team can keep quarterback Kirk Cousins on the team for a long time. When Cousins was asked about his future with the Redskins on Wednesday, he was focused solely on talking about the team's upcoming matchup.
"I really don't deal with it," Cousins said Wednesday at Redskins Park, per the Washington Post. "Just try to focus on playing the game. I've got enough to worry about with Carolina and every team after that. That consumes my focus."
Cousins was named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week this past week. He threw for four touchdowns and 324 yards passing with no interceptions on route to a perfect passer rating.
"I appreciate the question, but I feel like it's best for me to just focus on week-to-week and understanding that in this league, things change and happen so fast. I've gotten myself in trouble when I start to think and look down the road and predict things, so I try to take it one week at a time, one day at a time. I've learned to handle it that way. When you look any further than that, you're gonna get all kinds of things that you may have never expected.
"My focus is on Carolina, and I think it's best to leave it at that."
