Brian Hoyer: Bengals D doesn't seem to make mistakes

Houston Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer enters Monday night's game against the undefeated Bengals playing well of late, but knowing the challenge he faces in the Cincinnati defense.

As ESPN's Tania Ganguili notes, Hoyer's 12 touchdown passes between Week 4 and Week 8, were the fourth most by any quarterback in the NFL. The veteran has also thrown two or more touchdowns in five straight games.

This week, however, Hoyer must contend with a stingy Bengals defense that has given up an average of 17.8 points per game this season, fourth best in the NFL.

"You look around and it's guys that have been in the system for a very long time," Hoyer said. "The system, obviously (Mike) Zimmer was there, but (Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther) has kept it pretty familiar for those guys and you don't see them ever screw up anything, really. I think, after watching the film, I've seen one play where they might have messed that one up, but everything else, they are very sound, they have a lot of great players and they are going to make you earn every yard."

Hoyer won a pair of starts against the Bengals while a member of the Cleveland Browns the past two seasons, but said Wednesday his past success doesn't give him any advantage.

"It's not really relevant," Hoyer said. "It was a different team that I was on. Different team for them (too)."
