Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was incensed about what he termed a "cheap shot" after losing quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a concussion in Sunday's win over the visiting St. Louis Rams.
More specifically, Zimmer was upset with Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in the wake of Bridgewater taking an elbow to the head from St. Louis safety LaMarcus Joyner.
"If we were out in the street, we probably would have had a fight," Zimmer told reporters.
Zimmer referenced the history of Williams, who served nearly a one-year suspension for his role in the Bountygate scandal stemming from his tenure as the defensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints.
Asked if he thought Bridgewater was intentionally targeted, Zimmer told reporters: "I don't know. I do know that there's a history there with their defensive coordinator. I'll leave it at that."
Joyner denied any intent to hurt Bridgewater, telling reporters it was a "bang-bang" play and claiming he didn't think Bridgewater was going to slide. He also mentioned he is friends with Bridgewater, having played against each other in high school.
